From Devil Wagons to Mud Larks
In 1903 the National Association of Automobile Manufacturers sponsored an 800-mile endurance run from Weehawken, NJ to Pittsburgh, PA. Thirty-four competing automobiles departed on October 7, 1903 and traveled up the Hudson Valley and then through the Catskill Mountains. Reaching Delhi on the second day in a driving rain, they continued on through Franklin and then to Binghamton and beyond.

Save the Dates for the 2023 Rally Season!
- May 21st, 2023: The 3rd Saratoga ABC Rally visiting Artists, Battlefields and Covered Bridges. We will go into Vermont this year, visiting a former home of artist Norman Rockwell and crossing five covered bridges. We return to the Bennington and Saratoga Battlefields, Grandma Moses homestead and Will Moses' Mt Nebo Gallery
- June 10th, 2023: The 2nd Schoharie Turnpike – Kaaterskill Clove Road Rally brings us to Greene and Schoharie Counties and follows the 1803 Schoharie Turnpike to the Old Stone Fort Museum. We follow the Schoharie Creek to Museums at Gilboa and Prattsville and a stop at the Mountaintop Arboretum, with descent of the Kaaterskill Clove. The start is at the Village of Catskill's Dutchman's Landing Park on the Hudson River.
- September 23rd, 2023: The 7th Catskill Conquest Rally commemorating the 1903 Auto Endurance Run follows the Catskill Mountains Scenic Byway. We visit the Cauliflower Festival in Margaretville, the Hanford Mills Museum, and ending at the Franklin Railroad and Community Museum in Franklin, NY.
- October 14th, 2023: The 5th Catskill Covered Bridge Rally. This is a favorite following 13 watercourses and crossing historic Covered Bridges in the Catskill Park and Forest Preserve. Final date will depend on responses to the earlier Sunday rallies.
All rallies are noncompetitive and for the pure enjoyment of driving beautiful rural roads and visiting interesting attractions.
All cars are welcome, and we usually have a wide range of participants.
