Catskill Conquest Covered Bridge Rally
Saturday, October 24, 2020
Start at the Congressman Maurice D. Hinchey Catskill Visitor Center,
5069 State Route 28, Mount Tremper, NY. 10am. $30 per car.
This rally is based on the Covered Bridge Tour featured in the 2019 and 2020 Catskill Conquest Rally Book. The round trip covers 140 miles and cars need good brakes and power to handle the terrain. All roads are well paved and smooth.
We will drive though the heart of the wild forest of the Catskill Park that is home to the 1,584 square mile Catskill/Delaware Watershed that provides 90% of NYC's water supply with six reservoirs built between 1905 and the 1960s. We will be following 13 watercourses: Esopus Creek, West Branch Neversink River, Willowemoc Creek, Beaver Kill, Berry Brook, Holliday Brook, Pepacton Reservoir, East Branch Delaware River, Downs Brook, West Branch Delaware River, Bagley Brook, Platte Kill and Bush Kill.
We will visit and drive over four major covered bridges: Van Tran (1860), Beaverkill (1865), Downsville (1854) and Hamden (1859). We will return through the hamlet of Andes where the Andes Hotel and Wayside Cider are serving.
It will be a full day of rural driving through varied terrain and limited services. Food will be best brought along for the ride. There are many food services along Rt 28 to provide provisions for a picnic snack before we head into the forest.
If you are a veteran of the 2019 or 2020 Catskill Conquest Rally, bring your Rally Book as it has the map and directions we will follow. I will have 2020 copies available at the start at $10. Please email or call in your reservation and bring cash or check to the start.
Visit www.1903autorun.com for accommodation suggestions. Email or call me with any questions. We will run rain or shine. This rally is in response to the demand after our wonderful 4th annual Catskill Conquest Rally. I look forward to a glorious day of driving with you.
